The Traditional Art of Hand Push Engraving
Engraving
At Firestone, the most profound details are carved by hand. We partner exclusively with Marlen Hazel, a master hand engraver based in San Francisco who has practiced the traditional "hand-push" technique since 2013, using only real gravers and the steady strength of her hands. It is a rare, deliberate method in an era of automated and pneumatic engraving, giving every inscription the weight of a true heirloom.

The Process
Our collaboration with master engraver Marlen Hazel is a deliberate, three-stage journey that transforms a classic Firestone foundation into a one-of-a-kind story.
Discovery & Inspiration
Phase I
Your journey begins with the story you want to tell. Choose from one of our FFJ x Marlen Hazel collaboration pieces or share your specific vision through our custom engraving form. We'll guide the idea so it translates beautifully to the scale and architecture of your chosen piece.
Bespoke Design
Phase II
Once your concept is defined, we handle the rest. You'll receive a transparent quote based on the complexity of the hand-push engraving, and we'll confirm every design detail before production.
Hand-Push Artistry
Phase III
Your piece is then placed in the expert hands of Marlen Hazel. Using hand-push techniques honed over 12 years, she carves each line directly into the metal, no pneumatic shortcuts. The result is a deep, clean inscription built to last for lifetimes.
Presentation
Phase VI
Your piece undergoes a final quality inspection to meet our exacting standards, then is presented in our signature packaging. It's ready to be lived in and loved, a permanent connection to your personal history.
Investment
Custom engravings begin at $300, and the typical timeline ranges from 4-6 weeks.
Engravings are only possible on pieces created by Firestone Fine Jewelry.
